April 28 - HLPFI understands that the Port of Albany in the USA is about to begin a multi-million dollar construction project to replace a large portion of its old wooden wharf system.
The project will see the removal of timber piles, the existing the fender system and supporting structures, which will all be replaced with modern steel piles and a new fender system, as well as new rail lines.
Port of Albany is an important gateway for heavy lift cargoes such as generators which place a tremendous strain on the aging wharf system.
HLPFI understands that once this project is complete, the port will be able to accommodate an additional number of heavy lift ships at any one time.
