March 14 - In 2016 AirBridgeCargo Airlines (ABC) saw a 47 percent year-on-year increase of charter flights using its Boeing 747 freighters.
Its latest flights were operated on behalf of DHL Global Forwarding for Switzerland-based film manufacturer Evatec. ABC delivered a series of seven-tonne wooden boxes containing machine tools from Europe to the Asia Pacific region.
ABC's first charter flight for DHL and Evatec operated from Amsterdam, the Netherlands to Hong Kong via the airline's hub in Sheremetyevo, Moscow, Russia.
A second consignment originated in Zurich, Switzerland and was delivered to Hong Kong via Frankfurt and Moscow.
In total, ABC transported 80 tonnes of machinery, which will be used for the mass production of thin film coatings to support Evatec's growing business in China.
According to Sergey Lazarev, general director at ABC, this project is an example of the growing demand the company is seeing for Boeing 747 freighter charter services, which the company is able to meet due to its continued expansion of its fleet. ABC's fleet of 16 Boeing 747 freighters includes four 747-400 ERF, three 747-400F versions and nine of the newest generation 747-8 freighters.
