October 31 - 5K Logistics of Philadelphia, USA has handled the transport of 62 specialised passenger rail cars from Spain to Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The passenger rail cars were manufactured by Talgo of Spain and delivered to Talgo America in Milwaukee to be finished. They will be used for new high speed rail lines being constructed linking Milwaukee with other cities.
5K Logistics and fellow Global Logistics Network (GLN) member Transcontinental Forwarding of Madrid, Spain were selected to manage the transportation of the passenger rail cars from the port of Santander, Spain to Milwaukee via the port of Baltimore, USA.
The rail cars were transported on mafi trailers by Wallenius Wilhelmsen and then on specialised step deck trailers in Baltimore for the 800 mile (1287.4 km) journey to Milwaukee.
Paul McGrath, president of 5K Logistics, said each rail car was 45 ft (13.7 m) long, 10 ft (3.04 m) wide, 11 ft (3.35 m) high and weighed 17,544 lbs (7.9 tonnes).
