Maersk Line has transported wind turbine blades, measuring 103 ft (31.4 m) in length, from Krishnapatnam, India to Tianjin, China.
The cargoes, which weighed 16 tons (14.5 tonnes) each, were transported on the carrier’s weekly Chennai Express service using 13 flatracks.
Steve Felder, managing director at Maersk Line India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and Maldives, said: “There was seamless coordination between our team, the customer and the terminal operator to overcome infrastructure challenges and help deliver this delicate and expensive cargo to China.”
According to Maersk, the shipment is the first time it has handled breakbulk cargo of this size in the South India region.
