Italian freight forwarder Iscotrans has coordinated the delivery of a tunnel boring machine (TBM) from Italy to Argentina.
Iscotrans organised the delivery of the 70-tonne unit, which was shipped in two parts, from the manufacturer’s facility to the port of Genoa. The operation was made complex not only by the size of the items but also by severe weather conditions and the strict weight limitations on the Italian road infrastructure.
The TBM was loaded onto two container vessels. According to Roberto Benvenuti, a board member at Iscotrans, 600-tonne lifting capacity mobile cranes were used to perform the loading operation.
Once loaded, the components made their way to Argentina where the TBM will be used to build a 12 km-long wastewater tunnel that forms part of the third phase of the Riachuleo river cleaning project
