Haizea Wind has inaugurated its EUR60 million (USD70.28 million) wind turbine tower and offshore foundation manufacturing facility at the port of Bilbao, Spain.
The port said that the state-of-the-art plant, which spans some 77,000 sq m, is one of the largest facilities of its kind in Europe.
Located at the AZ-2 quay in the Zierbena area of the port, the facility has direct access to a 21 m-deep berth without dimensional restrictions along the route.
The facility itself will be able to manufacture 300 wind tower sections, measuring up to 50 m-long, each year. It will also manufacture other large parts used in offshore wind farms, such as monopiles and transition pieces.
The construction of the facility was carried out by a joint venture of Construcciones Intxausti, Byco (Inbisa Construcción) and Gaimaz Infraestructuras y Servicios.
