German heavy lift specialist Schmidbauer is onsite within the port area in Fos-sur-Mer to handle the assembly of plant components. It is using its recently added Liebherr LR 11350 crawler crane, equipped with a power boom, for the work, as HLPFI reported here.

It said that a total of three 8.4 MW wind turbines will be built by Siemens Gamesa on floating platforms for the project, with the LR 11350 crawler crane remaining on site to assist.

HLPFI readers will recall that cargoes for the pilot project started to arrive in at the port of Marseille-Fos during April. The turbine components arrived at the Gloria quay, located in the port of Marseille-Fos’ western basin at Port-Saint-Louis on the River Rhone.

The complete floating wind turbines will be installed 17 km off the coast of the Gulf of Fos at the end of summer.
