BigLift Shipping’s vessel Happy River has called at the port of Duluth’s Clure Public marine terminal in the USA to offload wind energy components.
Duluth offloaded 90 m-long towers using its 90-ton (81-tonne) capacity gantry cranes and a 300-ton (272-tonne) mobile crane.
“Our port is a key player in wind energy development worldwide, with a significant percentage of the wind cargoes on the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Seaway moving through the port of Duluth-Superior,” said Jonathan Lamb, president of Duluth Cargo Connect.
He added that the port is looking ahead to a busy season and cargoes from the wind energy industry will contribute to the activity, with multiple deliveries to wind farm sites throughout the Upper Midwest.
