Conceptum Logistics has coordinated the delivery of a ship-loader boom from South Mackay, Australia, to the city’s harbour.
In a four-hour operation the giant boom was lowered onto a pair of nine-axle Goldhofer trailers. The front trailer was pulled and steered by the lead prime mover, while the second trailer was pushed from the rear.
The combination measured 43.5 m x 8.3 m x 6.53 m, which Conceptum said made it difficult to obtain permits and approvals from all statutory bodies.
Three route surveys were completed in cooperation various stakeholders, including Queensland Rail, local councils, consultants and road maintenance companies.
Due to the extraordinary dimensions and weight of the cargo, Conceptum had to take a longer route to reach the port, covering a distance of approximately 85 km.
The convoy consisted of two police escorts, two electricity provider vehicles, two escort vehicles plus several further supporting vehicles.
