Hamburg-based COLI Schiffahrt & Transport, in cooperation with COLI Japan, coordinated the transport of six wind turbine and 18 rotor blades to Soma, Japan, on behalf of Hitachi Power Solutions.
The turbines were stowed below deck of the E-Ship 1 in Emden, Germany, while the rotor blades were loaded in Leixoes, Portugal.
The ro-ro vessel E-Ship 1 is owned by wind turbine manufacturer Enercon. It features four Flettner rotor sails that are connected to the ship’s propellers. The sails enhance the 130 m long ship’s propulsion, in turn reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
