ALE has handled the delivery of five Caterpillar mining trucks from an iron ore mine in Sishen to the port of Durban.
Each truck weighed 167 tonnes and was loaded on to 12-axle trailers from Goldhofer. The trailers, loaded with the mining trucks, had a height of 6.8 m.
Before the trucks could start the 1,000 km journey to Durban, ALE had to establish the structural integrity of bridges along the route; receive authorisation from each municipality the convoy travelled through; and liaise with the relevant authorities to remove any obstructions.
At the port, three of the trucks were loaded onto a ro-ro vessel, while two units were lifted on board a breakbulk vessel.
All of the trucks are now on their way to Australia where they will be used to move iron ore for a range of projects.
