AAL has made its inaugural call at the UK’s port of Felixstowe to deliver four rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTG).
The four electric-powered cranes were built by ZPMC in Shanghai, China and were transported on AAL Kobe, a 31,000 dwt multipurpose vessel that measures 193.9 m in length.
The units were unloaded using the ship's two 350-tonne capacity cranes in a tandem operation.
The RTGs weighed approximately 190 tonnes each and measured 34 m in height. They will be used by the port of Felixstowe, which is part of the Hutchison Ports group, at berths 8 and 9 where an additional 18,000 teu of container storage has been created.
According to the port, four more RTGs will be delivered to the port over the next few weeks.
