Shannon Foynes Port Company (SFPC) in the Republic of Ireland has taken delivery of a LHM 420 Liebherr mobile harbour crane.

The crane was transported from Liebherr’s factory in Rostock fully assembled on board Combi Lift’s heavy lift vessel Papenburg. Upon arrival at the deepwater port of Foynes, located in Limerick, the LHM 420 was driven off the vessel by Liebherr engineers.

With a maximum lifting capacity of 124 tonnes, the crane will be used for the handling of bulk products and project cargoes, in particular wind turbines.

Due to the port’s close proximity to the town of Foynes, the new crane was fitted with additional sound proofing to reduce noise emissions.

Pat Keating, ceo at SFPC, said: “We need efficient jetties but we also need efficient plant and machinery and this crane gives us all of that and more. This piece of equipment is future proofing the port.

“The greater lift capacity and reach it provides enables us to bring in new business. That means more ships, bigger ships and processing them with faster turnaround times.”
