Hybrid Air Vehicles (HAV) has partnered with Collins Aerospace and the UK’s University of Nottingham to develop electric propulsion technologies for the Airlander 10.
The UK Aerospace Research and Technology Programme awarded the partnership a GBP1 million (USD1.3 million) grant for the project.
Named E-HAV1, the project will develop a prototype 500 kW electric propulsion system for ground testing. These technologies will be applicable to a future Airlander 10, with the goal of replacing its fuel-burning forward engines as the first step towards an all-electric version of the lighter-than-air craft.
