Sarens’ heavy lift crane Big Carl has positioned a 304-tonne steel liner ring onto the first reactor building at EDF’s Hinkley Point C power station in the UK.
The building, which now currently stands at a height of 44 m, will eventually house one of Hinkley Point C’s two nuclear reactors.
EDF said that the liner ring also has supporting brackets for the Polar Crane Beam – an internal crane that will rotate 360 degrees above the reactor and be used for refuelling.
The final stage will be to fit the “lid” atop the building, with the dome lift scheduled for next year.
EDF said that the power station will supply six million UK households with sustainable energy.
