February 18 - Shipments undertaken by the North-Western Shipping Company (NWSC) in 2015 totalled 4.8 million tonnes - 14 percent lower than the previous year.
NWSC attributed the reduction in volumes mainly to the low water levels in the Russian waterways and the general economic environment.
Despite the fall in volume, the company's earnings from freight activities increased by 25 percent year-on-year in 2015.
Around 70 percent of the company's revenue was acquired from the transportation of grain, timber, chemical and mineral fertilisers, ferrous materials, project cargo and equipment.
The volume of domestic cargo handled by NWSC equated to 22,000 tonnes, which included equipment shipped along the Northern Sea Route (NSR) and construction-related cargo delivered from the northwest of Russia to Kaliningrad.
