August 12 - The Freight Co. Ltd Myanmar has been appointed general sales agent (GSA) for a barge service between Rangong, Thailand and Yangon, Myanmar.
Operated by Consolidated Heavy Lift Singapore, the barge service is scheduled to begin operation in the middle of September.
The service will be served by the tugboat Shwe Lin Ta and the 210 ft (64 m) flat top barge CHL 2101, which has a 60-tonne capacity heavy-duty ramp. There is also an option to add a 100-tonne capacity or 300-tonne capacity ramp, said The Freight Co.
To allow for discharging at remote locations, the barge can also be fitted with a crawler crane. Services can be provided to all coastal areas and to offshore platforms, as well as upriver in Myanmar's waterways, subject to draft conditions.
The Freight Co explained that the barge service is primarily targeting the oil and gas, power, steel, mining and construction industries.
The Freight Co is also to host a heavy transportation and lifting workshop for a number of authorities in Myanmar (including the Ministry of Energy, Power, Industry, Construction and Transport) in Yangon in November 2014.
