March 23 - The Rhenus Group has expanded its capacity in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia through the acquisition of Allgemeine Land und Seespedition (ALS).
The two ALS sites in Duisburg and Bottrop offer 107,000 sq m of space, focusing on the handling and storage of goods for customers in the steel and chemical industries.
The acquisition provides Rhenus with a further 31 warehouses, seven cranes and an open-air storage area for steel products.
Norbert Nowak, a member of the inland ports management team at Rhenus, said that the company believes there is enormous potential for chemical industry operations at the site in Bottrop.
Former ALS shareholder, Arnd Zappe, will continue as managing director of the company.
