September 10 - Mayor of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Tom Barrett, discusses planned infrastructure investments at the port of Milwaukee today at a ceremony honouring the port for its increased international cargo volume in 2012.
Milwaukee is one of eight ports receiving the Pacesetter award this year.
The mayor will accept the prestigious Robert J. Lewis Pacesetter award from Betty Sutton, administrator of the Saint Lewis Seaway Development Corporation.
This year the port, which connects local businesses with customers around the world, has handled a wide range of cargoes, including a mining shovel, enormous beer brewing tanks and oversized electrical transformers. Infrastructure developments in the coming year - rail improvements and a new crane - hope to facilitate project movement at the port.
