March 4 - Peel Ports Great Yarmouth has been selected as the port for construction and installation activities for ScottishPower Renewables' GBP2.5 billion (USD3.53 billion) East Anglia ONE offshore wind farm.
Peel Ports says that up to GBP5 million (USD7.02 million) will be invested in the port to enable it to be ready to support activities for the 102-turbine wind farm in 2018/2019.
Developments at Great Yarmouth port, which was recently acquired by Peel Ports, will include the delivery of yard storage and marshalling, as well as the installation of heavy lift quay facilities.
Wind turbine components will be preassembled on the quay and then loaded onto installation vessels, which will depart Great Yarmouth and deliver the units to the wind farm site - some 48 km offshore.
Richard Goffin, who was recently appointed port director of Peel Ports Great Yarmouth, said: "This new partnership with ScottishPower Renewables will really strengthen our long term plans to grow and diversify our offering in Great Yarmouth within the energy sector."
Construction of the East Anglia ONE farm is scheduled to begin in 2017 with the first turbines installed by 2019.
