International Container Terminal Services Inc (ICTSI) has inaugurated two berths at the port of Umm Qasr, Iraq.
Construction of berths 25 and 26 represented a USD250 million investment at ICTSI’s Basra Gateway Terminal (BGT), which includes a container terminal and specialised facilities for the handling of general cargo, ro-ro, dry bulk and project cargo.
The two new berths are equipped with state-of-the-art container handling equipment and IT systems, said ICTSI. Three quayside gantry cranes, each with an outreach of 56 m, will join a fleet of 10 rubber-tyred gantry cranes to provide container handling capabilities.
