Heerema Marine Contractors has been awarded the transport and installation contract for the 900 MW Greater Changhua 1 and 2a offshore wind farms in Taiwan.
The projects consist of four sites in the Taiwan Strait, off the coast of Changhua County. Heerema will be responsible for the transport and installation of 111 turbine foundations as well as the installation of two large offshore substations.
Heerema said that it will use its heavy lift vessel Aegir for the project, with installation slated to occur during 2021 and 2022.
Earlier this year, Heerema was awarded its first wind energy contract in Taiwan – the installation of 21 jacket foundations for the offshore Changhua Windfarm Phase 1 project.
Located 8 km off the coast of Changhua County at a water depth ranging from 18 to 28 m, the offshore phase of this project will start in March 2020 with completion planned for early June 2020.
