February 17 - Volga-Dnepr Airlines has transported a 103-tonne turbine rotor from Frankfurt-Hahn to Yekaterinburg, Russia onboard on of its AN-124-100 freighter aircraft.
The rotor was carried using bespoke transportation tooling, and the offloading of the cargo onto a trailer at Yekaterinburg's Koltsovo airport took five hours.
Volga-Dnepr's technical crew used a specially designed ramp and hydraulic crane with special rails to ensure the safe unloading of the rotor onto the 80-wheel trailer.
Volga-Dnepr appointed a subcontractor to operate the special loading equipment, obtained all necessary permits and arranged delivery of the rotor from the airport to its installation site.
This was the first time such a piece of cargo had been delivered to Yekaterinburg by air, claims the company.
