April 5 - Starting from September 2017, Finnlines will lengthen four of its Breeze series vessels, increasing vessel capacity by around 1,000 lane metres.
Finnlines has signed a contract with Remontowa shipyard in Gdansk, Poland where work will commence in September 2017. The yard is committed to perform this work in less than two months for each vessel, with the whole lengthening programme expected to be completed in May 2018. Finnlines has also signed an option with Remontowa shipyard for the extension of two further vessels.
The close to 30 percent capacity increase will reduce the energy consumption per transported unit compared to the original vessel, which improves efficiency and contributes to reducing emissions, says Finnlines.
Remontowa shipyard is also involved in several other energy efficiency projects for Finnlines' Finneagle. The vessel is currently in Gdansk where inline hybrid scrubbers and improved propeller blades are being installed.
According to Finnlines, the investments will amount to approximately EUR70 million (USD74.7 million).
