January 16 - Through an agreement with investment company JL-Fondet (which owns tanker and reefer shipping line J. Lauritzen), fast-expanding Danish global forwarder and logistics service provider DSV has purchased a quarter of Scandinavian ro-ro shipping
The logic behind the deal seems to be an attempt to integrate DSV's road freight services with DFDS' ro-ro shipping capabilities. DSV stated that it would be "able to develop and better utilise the ro-ro network of DFDS, particularly in part and full loads, thereby increasing the freight volumes of DFDS". It appears that DSV, which has a significant presence in the movement of heavy and over-dimensional project cargoes, is aiming to creating a degree of vertical integration for its northern European road transport business.
