September 21 - ZPMC-OTL Marine Contractor (ZOMC) has transported an 883 ft x 174 ft (269 m x 53 m) drydock - dubbed Ex-Machinist (AFDB-8) - from Guam in Micronesia to Shanghai, China on board its heavy transport vessel Zhen Hua 28.
ZOMC president Wei Ye explained that the semi-submersible ship Zhen Hua 28 was in a "perfect position" to provide a safe and cost effective transportation solution for the huge drydock.
"Our ability to provide 24-hour high quality engineering and on site engineering support in Guam ensured that the drydock could be transported safely and within budget," he added.
According to ZOMC, Davina Shields of AIS Singapore played a key role in the project, assisting with the timing of the loading for both ZOMC and Guam Shipyards.
ZOMC is a joint venture, launched last year, between ZPMC Offshore Services Group and OffshoreTech, which currently operates a fleet of two heavy lift vessels, 27 transportation vessels, five sheer legs, 18 tugs, 22 barges and three jack-up barges.
