October 10 - Netherlands headquartered heavy lift shipping line Dockwise has been awarded the contract to load and transport the sunken vessel Concordia, offshore Isola del Giglio in Italy.
The contract was awarded by Costa Crociere S.p.A. Following the successful parbuckling of Concordia, Dockwise and the client have been discussing how to safely remove the shipwreck.
Dockwise will mobilise its largest semi-submersible heavy lift vessel, Dockwise Vanguard, to transport Concordia in one piece so she can be scrapped. Costa Crociere has yet to make a decision with the local authorities exactly where the ruined ship will be recycled.
Modifications will need to be made to Dockwise Vanguard to accommodate Concordia in her current state, says Dockwise. The project is planned for mid-2014 and the contract is valued at approximately USD30 million.
Dockwise is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Royal Boskalis Westminster, which successfully completed the acquisition of the heavy lift shipping line in April 2013.
