Damen Green Solutions is touring its InvaSave mobile ballast water treatment system around Europe to demonstrate its effectiveness in complying with the upcoming International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) regulations.
In less than five months, the IMO’s Ballast Water Convention will be extended to cover existing ships as well as newbuilds. As of September 8, all tonnage will need to comply by the time of their first International Oil Pollution Prevention (IOPP) certificate renewal.
Ahead of this deadline, Damen is showcasing InvaSave 300 – an external, port-based treatment system that comes in a single 40 ft container. The IMO-certified system is fully mobile, which Damen said makes it ideal for placing it on a barge, workboat or trailer for easy movement around a port, harbour or shipyard.
The first public demonstrations of the InvaSave European tour will take place at the cruise terminal at the port of Lisbon on May 16 and 17, as part of the European Maritime Days event.
