September 27 - Cargolux Airlines International has taken delivery of its ninth B747-8 freighter, bringing its combined fleet of B747 freighter aircraft to 19 units.
The new next generation aircraft has a payload capacity of 135 tonnes. With this upgrade, Cargolux further decreases its environmental footprint, while benefitting from the aircraft's lower operating costs and improved economics.
Using new GEnx engines, improved aerodynamics and lighter materials the B747-8F provides double-digit improvements in fuel consumption and carbon emissions when compared to older B747 models, says Cargolux. Moreover, the new aircraft is significantly quieter than previous B747 generation aircraft.
The new aircraft - named LX-VCI City of Troisvierges - landed in Luxembourg on the morning of September 27, 2013, where journalists waited to catch a glimpse of Cargolux's latest addition.
