Over EUR10 million (USD11 million) has been invested in the new facility, which replaces the company's previous site in Sofia.
"The new terminal in Elin Pelin is intended to serve as a central distribution centre for the Balkan region and for transports toward Central Asia. In addition to being ideally situated with regard to transport connections, above all it will offer more space for the logistics business and help to drive forward the current expansion in these regions," said Thomas Moser, regional manager for southeast Europe and the CIS at Gebrüder Weiss.
The new logistics includes 6,000 sq m of logistics facilities, 1,800 sq m of handling areas and 1,300 sq m of office premises. The site, which will offer Gebrüder Weiss' entire logistics service portfolio, allows staff numbers to increase from 60 to 90.
"The Bulgarian market has proved to be a stable factor in earlier periods of economic difficulty," said Moser. "We are investing in the long term and assume that Bulgaria will be able to adapt quickly to each new situation."
