February 18 - AV Dawson has seen the largest ship to date visit the quayside of its North Sea Supply Base in Middlesbrough, UK, following a GBP3.2 million (USD4.91 million) investment in facilities there last year.
At 160.5 m long by 27.9 m wide and with a deadweight of 12,501 tonnes, SAL Heavy Lift's Lone became the longest and widest ship to have used the quayside facilities when it arrived recently to collect materials for the construction of another specialist vessel in Singapore.
The deepwater quay is one of a number of recent investments made by AV Dawson and the company's managing director, Gary Dawson said: "Having SAL's Lone utilise our quayside demonstrates that the on-going investments made to increase and improve the capabilities are being well received and are already paying off."
Ship's agent, Cockfield Knight, which is also part of the AV Dawson group, oversaw the consolidation of this cargo by road and sea prior to acting as port agents for the ship's visit.
