June 18 - An exhibition is always a good opportunity for making a significant announcement and that was certainly the case at last week's TOC Europe exhibition in Antwerp.
Gottwald Port Technology launched the Gottwald Model 2 Harbour Crane (pictured below) specifically designed to meet the needs of smaller terminals in maritime and river ports. The Demag Cranes subsidiary also introduced a new crane type - the G HRK Rubber-Tyred Portal Harbour Crane. The crane combines great mobility combined with the benefits of a drive-under portal solution.
The new model has a maximum lifting capacity of 80 tonnes, a radius of up to 40 m and hoisting speeds of up to 120 m/min. Model 2 is the first member of Gottwald's Small Crane Family, which has now extended Gottwald's Generation 5 Harbour Cranes into the realms of smaller cargo handling cranes.
The G HRK Rubber-Tyred Portal Harbour Crane says this crane type combines the mobility of the classic rubber-tyred G HMK Mobile Harbour Crane with the benefits attached to a drive-under portal solution, such as that offered by the G HSK Portal Harbour Crane. Alongside these types, Gottwald also offers the new Model 2 as a Floating Crane (G HPK Harbour Pontoon Crane or as the G HSK Portal Harbour Crane on a barge) with individually tailored barges and as the fixed G HPK Pedestal-Mounted Harbour Crane.
Meanwhile, The Terex Corporation introduced its new port solutions group called Terex Port Solutions at the exhibition. The group will combine Terex and Gottwald Port Technology products into a single source for port businesses. Gottwald Port Technology products will be branded Terex® Gottwald.
"Both Terex and Gottwald are well recognised as significant suppliers to the port industry, and we can best serve customers as a unified organisation that is committed to a single purpose and identity," says Klaus Peter Hoffmann, leader of Terex Port Solutions.
The Terex Port Solutions portfolio includes several familiar and respected product lines including the former Noell,Fantuzzi, PPM and Reggiane brands alongside the extensive portfolio of Gottwald products. The range includes ship-to-shore and mobile harbour cranes, straddle and sprinter carriers, automated guided vehicles and stacking cranes, rubber tyred and rail mounted gantry cranes, reach stackers, empty and full container handlers, as well as general cargo lift trucks.
Readers will recall that Terex completed its takeover of Demag Cranes in 2011.
At the time, Aloysius Rauen, CEO of Demag Cranes AG, said: "Demag Cranes has developed superbly in the last few years and secured outstanding growth prospects for itself as the industry's technology and innovation leader. We are confident that, on the basis of our clear strategy, we will be able to carry on our success story as an independent operating segment within the Terex Group and, alongside the strong partner Terex, accelerate our advance on our growth trajectory."
