Working with Orsted (formerly DONG Energy) and GeoSea, Able Seaton Port is providing the installation base and associated services for the Hornsea Project One offshore wind farm in the UK.
Under the contract, Able Seaton Port will be responsible for the receipt, storage and delivery of 174 monopiles, weighing 900 tons (816.5 tonnes) each, and 174 transition pieces, weighing 350 tons (317.5 tonnes) each.
The monopiles are being supplied from Erndtebrücker Eisenwerk's (EEW) plant in Rostock, northern Germany, while three companies will supply the transition pieces: Bladt from Aalborg, Denmark, and OSB and Wilton Engineering, both based on the River Tees in the UK.
Teeside-based Able UK operates Able Seaton Port, which is located on the north east coast of the UK, close to the mouth of the River Tees.
To date the first 12 monopiles have been delivered to the port on board the SAL Heavy Lift vessel Svenja.
Once completed, the Hornsea Project One offshore wind farm will feature 174 turbines and cover an area of 407 sq km. The wind farm will have a total capacity of 1.2 GW.
