Nanjing Jinling shipyard in China has started the construction of Finnlines’ latest newbuild ro-ro vessel.
The Helinski-headquartered shipping operator has ordered three hybrid ro-ro vessels, which will be equipped with lithium-ion battery and emission abatement systems to minimise CO2 emissions. The first of the 17,400 dwt, 238 m-long vessels is expected to start operations as early as next year, and the other two in 2022.
Finnlines, part of the Grimaldi Group, has also ordered two Superstar ro-pax vessels. The investment of all five vessels is worth EUR500 million (USD567.6 million).
