Between 2019 and 2024, Wagenborg installed BWTS across its owned and managed vessels. The final installation on IJborg marks 100 percent fleet compliance with the IMO Ballast Water Treatment Convention, ahead of the 2024 mandatory deadline.

“As early adopters of this critical environmental technology, Wagenborg has demonstrated its commitment to ocean health and sustainability,” said Niels Wage, managing director at Wagenborg Shipping. “This achievement places us at the forefront of the industry in protecting marine ecosystems.”

In addition to the BWTS installations, Wagenborg said that it continues to pioneer various initiatives to further its environmental stewardship, including the implementation of biocide-free fouling systems, the adoption of whale protection protocols through speed reduction in sensitive areas, and ongoing research into underwater noise reduction technologies.
