Dutch maritime contractor Van Oord has installed four 123 m legs for its offshore installation vessel, Boreas.
The legs allow the vessel to operate in waters up to 70 m deep, without being impacted by waves.
The vessel can run on methanol and is purpose-built for the transport and installation of the next generation of 20 MW offshore wind turbines.
Alongside the completion of the work on its legs, Boreas’ technical installations are being commissioned to prepare it for jacking, crane and sea trials. Once those are complete, the vessel will head to the Netherlands.
The vessel was launched in May at Yantai CIMC Raffles Shipyard in China.
