United Heavy Lift (UHL) has begun implementing Syroco’s weather routing platform across 11 of its vessels.
It follows a successful pilot phase on three vessels. The platform, by software development firm Syroco, utilises digital twins and machine learning to optimise routes and reduce fuel consumption.
By providing real-time updates on weather conditions and route adjustments, voyages can be made more efficient. The platform factors in the specific characteristics of each vessel and cargo type.
“During the pilot phase, we were able to significantly improve decision making, increase accuracy of performance predictions, and measure a reduction in fuel consumption,” said Lars zum Felde, director fleet management, UHL Crewing.
As well as enhancing operational efficiency and reduce the environmental footprint of its maritime services, UHL believes that the software will modernise its fleet and help keep the company competitive in the heavy shipping sector.
Earlier this month, UHL delivered material handlers from Finland to Vietnam.
