Turkish Airlines has ordered a further three Boeing 777 Freighters as part of the continued expansion of its freighter fleet.
According to Boeing, the order came weeks after the carrier took delivery of two of the large cargo jets late last year.
"These freighter orders will surely contribute to our significant target for establishing a young and efficient cargo fleet," said M. İlker Aycı, chairman of the board and the executive committee of Turkish Airlines. "The new aircraft will be delivered this year and will provide us with additional flexibility to serve more destinations while we continue to develop our global freight service."
The B777 is a twin-engine freighter and can fly 4,900 nautical miles (9,070 km) with a full payload of 112 tons (102 tonnes), which Boeing claims translates into fewer stops and associated landing fees, less congestion at transfer hubs, lower cargo handling costs and shorter cargo delivery times.
Turkish Airlines has a cargo fleet of 16 aircraft, including one Boeing 747F, and, through its Turkish Cargo charter service, the carrier provides transport solutions for special cargo, including heavy and/or bulky shipments.
