Toepfer Transport reports that time charter rates in the multipurpose shipping sector continued on their upward trajectory in June 2021.
The average daily time charter rate for a 12,500 dwt/F-type heavy lift vessel hit USD10,285 at the start of June 2021 – an increase of 14.47 percent over May 2021 levels. Year-on-year, the daily time charter rate has increased by some 61.18 percent.
The shipbroker and industry analyst said: “The increase of the charter rates gained further pace but with the summer arriving a slow down of the growth may be in front of us. Notwithstanding the euphoria, it has to be kept in mind that the current rate levels do not represent record earnings but just reached levels, which make shipowners earn money again after some years of operating close to cost recovery levels.”
