Global towage operator Svitzer has taken delivery of the tugboat Svitzer Vestri from Turkey-based shipbuilder Med Marine.
The azimuth stern drive (ASD) tug has a 62-ton (56.2-tonne) bollard pull and will be deployed for Svitzer Europe’s operations across Germany and Scandinavia.
Svitzer Vestri will primarily support the company’s recent expansion at the port of Emden, Germany, where it is scheduled to commence operations from January 1, 2021.
Svitzer said that the tugboat’s design makes it compact yet robust, enabling greater manoeuvrability “without compromising on power, even within narrow and shallow ports.”
Mattias Hellström, managing director at Svitzer for Scandinavia and Germany, said: “The new tug’s versatility and power make her an ideal addition to our fleet, particularly as we embrace a new challenge in 2021 by commencing operations in Emden.”
Svitzer Europe will also take delivery of two TundRA 3000 ice-breaking tugs in early 2021, currently being built by Med Marine.
