Announced during the COP 29 climate summit, the airport will operate as Silk Way Alat Free Economic Zone Company. The airport will have 18 aircraft stands and a 4,000 m runway and taxiway. “This initiative not only bolsters our standing within the Middle Corridor but also opens up new avenues for growth,” said Zaur Akhundov, president of Silk Way Group.

Set for completion in 2026, the Alat Free Economic Zone will have railway and motorway access to both the Baku International Sea Trade Port and the newly built airport.

The Middle Corridor has re-emerged as a viable trade route for all types of cargo due to disruptions caused by the war in Ukraine and sanctions affected against Russia.
