DEME Offshore has contracted Huisman to increase the capacity of the crane on its DP2 jack-up installation vessel Sea Installer.
The upgrade will see the crane capacity increased from 900 tonnes to 1,600 tonnes. This, DEME Offshore explained, will allow Sea Installer to handle the next generation of offshore wind turbine generators (WTG).
Sea Installer will then be deployed at the 800 MW Vineyard Wind 1 project to install General Electric’s Haliade-X turbines, which measure up to 248 m high.
Marro Vreys, business unit director WTG, at DEME Offshore, said: “This allows us to maintain our position as the industry leader in WTG installation and also to assist the offshore wind sector as it looks to take the next step, deploying even more powerful turbines.”
DEME Offshore also plans to upgrade the crane on the jack-up installation vessel Sea Challenger.
