March 30 - Independent forwarder and logistics company, SBS Worldwide rose to the challenge when an existing client in Scotland advised of an over-dimensional consignment that needed to be moved to Singapore.
The company is used to shipping small consignments of equipment from Glasgow-based crane and hoist manufacturer PCT Group Sales Ltd, but was given responsibility for a major shipment going to one of PCT's key oil industry customers in the Asia Pacific region.
The shipment in question was a 30 tonne capacity, Double Girder Overhead Travelling Gantry Crane moving ex-works from its Scottish manufacturing location to Jurong Shipyard in Singapore, where it will be fitted on a Saudi Aramco barge involved in offshore oil activity in the region. The volume of the 10 tonne consignment was 81 cu m and its packed dimensions were 9m length x 4.5m width x 2m height.
The consignment was routed by road from Glasgow through Southampton where it was loaded on Eukor Line's Morning Crown for the journey.
