SAL Heavy Lift’s vessel Sofie has docked at Wallmann Terminal following a revamp at a shipyard that saw the ship get a complete makeover, including an updated ballast water treatment system, and silicone anti-fouling coating that reduces emissions and fuel consumption.
In addition to the upgrades, the heavy lift ship now sports SAL Heavy Lift’s latest livery. The design has been updated in line with the company’s newbuild Orca series and will be rolled out across its entire fleet.
The Orca series, under construction at the Wuhu Shipyard in China, includes four 14,600 dwt multipurpose heavy lift vessels, plus two options. The first two ships will be exclusively involved in the transport of offshore wind turbine components in a long-term commitment with Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, as HLPFI reported here.
The third and fourth vessels will enter the premium heavy lift shipping market to serve clients of the Jumbo-SAL-Alliance in the first half of 2025.
