The ceremony was held at the ASL Yard in Batam, Indonesia, and the delivery took place in the presence of Gonnie van Seumeren, who named the barge, alongside her husband Frans van Seumeren, one of the founding partners of Roll Group.

During the ceremony, Roll Group ceo Peter Rondhuis expressed gratitude to the key partner’s Viva Energy, McDermott, ASL Yard and BRS Brokering for their commitment and dedication to the project.

RollBarge 1 is the latest addition to the growing Roll Group fleet, capable of floating in and out of the company’s semi-submersible ships. The barge design allows for beaching in shallow waters, enabling Roll Group to deliver large modules to remote areas while eliminating the need for extensive dredging. This flexibility reduces costs and minimises environmental impact, according to the company.

Roll Group plans further expansion of its asset base in 2024 with a second gantry portal crane with a lifting capacity above 4,000 tonnes. This newbuild crane offers an alternative to traditional large ringer cranes, promising a reduction in operational time and carbon footprint by over 50 percent.

In addition, Roll Group will add two more deck carriers to its fleet in 2025 and has invested in an additional 300 axle lines, including both conventional trailers and SPMTs, with further expansions expected.
