March 20 - Over 2,150 freight forwarders attended the World Cargo Alliance (WCA) Family Week Conference at Centara Grand and Bangkok Convention Centre earlier this month.

The WCA Family Week has become a worldwide networking forum for independent freight forwarders, and this was no different, with representatives from 167 countries around the world, resulting in more than 74,000 individual meetings during the week.

The plenary sessions saw representatives from Etihad AirwaysIATAINTTRA and the European Shippers Council address the delegates.

Statistics revealed at the event indicated that the independent freight forwarding sector had gained market share over the past 12 months, with WCA Family members gaining an even greater percentage of business from multinationals, claimed WCA. Etihad Airlines also revealed that the new agreement to provide airway bills direct to WCA Family member companies was underway and the first shipments were to be flown soon.

WCA Family president, David Yokeum, said: "This has been our most successful Family Week conference to date. The sheer amount of business and new partnerships generated during the event is staggering. I am delighted that the independent freight forwarding community is thriving and gaining new business all the time despite the tough market conditions."
