USA-based Omega Morgan has replaced three transformers for a Centralia power station in Washington State.
In total, Omega Morgan moved six units weighing 172 tonnes each.
After one transformer failed in December 2022, two other transformers had to pick up the lost capacity. Omega Morgan said that the transformer failure encouraged Centralia to replace all three aging units.
Omega Morgan spent two days developing a plan before commencing with the move. For the operation, the first active transformer was jacked and loaded onto a six-line SPMT before being moved 45 m. It was then jacked down with four 90-tonne jacks.
The replacement transformer was jacked and skidded into position. The operation would be repeated for the four remaining transformers.
According to Omega Morgan, the operation was completed seven days ahead of schedule.
