August 26 - In South West Africa, the newly launched Angola Atlantic Line will utilise the deep sea vessels operated by Gulf Africa Line and the coastal feeder vessels operated by Angolana de Navegacao (Anna) in a new, regular, multipurpose liner service
The mainline vessels are in the 25,000-35,000 tonne range - multipurpose, tweendeck ships with self-geared heavy-lift capabilities up to 80 tonnes. The feeder vessels are 4,000-5,000 tonnes and also self-geared up to 60 tonnes. These are a perfect match for handling bulk, breakbulk and containerised cargoes according to a spokesman for Maritime Carrier Shipping (MACS) which manages the Gulf Africa Line (GAL) service in South Africa.
