September 13 - A new Danish-based jointly-owned shipping company will be interested in cultivating heavy lift and project forwarding cargo utilising small to medium-sized ships worldwide activity, says an executive of the new line.
United Nordic Shipping (UNS) is a joint venture of two Danish lines: Thor Rederi, Svendborg and Rederiet Otto Danielsen, Virium.
UNS will be based in Virum and has an office in Svendborg. The line will use 18 smaller container and multipurpose vessels ranging in size from 1,200-12,000 dwt that are owned by the parties.
Søren Andersen (pictured below), who has been commercial director of Rederiet Otto Danielsen's parent companyTschudi Shipping Company, will become CEO of United Nordic Shipping.
Michael Mortensen, CEO of Thor Rederi (pictured below), takes up the position as CFO and becomes part of the corporate management team of UNS. He has confirmed to HLPFI that the new line will seek to move heavy lift and project cargo when the line is operational.
The management is currently in discussions with a potential commercial partner in Singapore to achieve an operative presence in Asia. The line will also offer ship management services to future partners.
The Thor Rederi group, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Aktieselskabet Sydfyenske holding, owns nine multipurpose (MPP) ships operating worldwide in project cargo movements.
