The ceremony took place at Shin Kurushima Dockyard at Onishi Shipyard, in Ehime, Japan. It was attended by MOL’s ceo, Takeshi Hashimoto and Makoto Uchida, ceo, Nissan Motor Corporation. Celeste Ace has an overall length of 200 m, a breadth of 38 m, and a maximum capacity of 7,050 units.

This is the sixth LNG-fuelled car carrier under MOL’s operation out of 14, with the remaining deliveries already scheduled.

LNG can reduce CO2 emissions by 25 percent to 30 percent compared with conventional fuel oil, and MOL intends to deliver 90 LNG/methanol-fuelled vessels by 2030. According to MOL, these will be a variety of vessels, not just car carriers.
